Scope and content

Correspondence to Bateson during Backhouse's periods of work in Argentina. He discusses the progress of his scientific investigations, chiefly of wheat, and also gives general details of his experiences and observations while in Argentina. Included are photographs sent by Backhouse as follows: at K.2, 15 showing, variously, some colleagues of his (J. Williamson and H. Amos), scenes from his working environment, and general scenes of Argentina; at K.4, 4 showing wheat and rye. Most have been annotated on the back by Backhouse, often with detailed notes.
