Admin History: James (Jim) C Smith (BSDB Chairman 1994-1999), Developmental Biology, National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), London Prof. Jonathan M W Slack (BSDB Secretary 1993-1998), Developmental Biology Programme, Sch. of Biology & Biochemistry, University of Bath, Zoo. Dept, Oxford, 1994-, : a developmental biologist and author of five books and over 200 scientific papers. He is an emeritus professor at the University of Bath, UK, as well as the University of Minnesota, USA, where he was Director of the Stem Cell Institute from 2007–2013. International Society of Developmental Biologists (ISDB) renamed 1968, formerly known as the International Institute of Embryology (IIE) founded by A. A. W. Hubrecht in 1911 , Section of Developmental Biology for the International Union of Biological Societies (IUBS). In 1997 the ISDB took over the functions of a parallel organization, the European Developmental Biology Organisation (EDBO), becoming the world umbrella of developmental biology associations.
