All but one of the letters are to Bateson from various individuals, expressing regret at Allard's death, with 2pp typescript of an obituary (and printed version), probably by Bateson. Included are 5pp manuscript notes in an unidentified hand, headed 'Mr Allard'. There is a single letter from Allard to Bateson, 1910, re arrangements for his employment at the John Innes Horticultural Institution. Included also are photocopied pages from 'Gardeners' Chronicle', 1909-1911, containing references to Allard.

Admin History: Allard was the first Garden Superintendent of the Institution, having previously worked for Bateson at Cambridge. His death in 1918 was from influenza.
