Admin History: In the Address, Bateson expressed his skepticism regarding Darwinian Natural selection. H.F. Osborn considered that Bateson had put out misleading statements and correspondence on the Address soon appeared in scientific and general publications. Misrepresentation of his remarks by reporters in the USA provided a propaganda tool for William Jennings Bryan who was campaigning to ban the teaching of evolution. The Address was published in 'Science', Vol. LV, No. 1412, Jan. 12 1922, and soon afterwards, in 'Nature'.
