Admin History: International Seed Trade Federation (FIS) and International Association of Plant Breeders (ASSINSEL): FIS was formed at the First International Seed Congress in 1924 (Fédération Internationale du Commerce des Semences). ASSINSEL (Association Internationale des Sélectionneurs pour la Protection des Obtentions Végétales) formed in 1938 with the aim of establishing an efficient system for the protection of new plant varieties. ISF was formed in 2002 following the merger of ASSINSEL and FIS with the mandate to represent global issues critical to both seed marketers and breeders. Greg Sage was Vice Chair of the Sustainable Agricultural Committee and Chairman of the Biodiversity Committee of ASSINSEL from about 1992-2002 and spoke at conferences worldwide as the FIS/ASSINSEL UK representative.
