Admin History: Dr Gregory C M Sage (1940- ), BA, MA, DipAgSci (Cantab), received his PhD from Cambridge in 1980 for work on hybrid wheat at the Plant Breeding Institute, Cambridge. Sage joined the PBI in 1961 as a scientific officer in the cereals department, working on cereal pathology and the breeding of Spring Wheat and Winter Barley. After the privatisation of the PBI in 1987 Sage continued to work for the reformed Plant Breeding International which was subsequently sold to Unilever and then to Monsanto. From about 1992-2002 he worked for the UK Plant Breeding Industries Trade Association, the British Society of Plant Breeders, the International Seed Trade Federation (FIS) and International Association of Plant Breeders, UK (ASSINSEL), the worldwide body representing plant breeding organisations. He was Vice Chair of the Sustainable Agricultural Committee and Chairman of the Biodiversity Committee of ASSINSEL and spoke at conferences worldwide as the FIS/ASSINSEL UK representative.
