Admin History: The Media Kitchen (now the Media Preparation Area) was responsible for the preparation of many different types of solutions and liquids that the John Innes Centre’s scientists used to grow microorganisms and plants. Helen joined the John Innes Institute in 1968, Joyce in 1969 and Alice in 1978. Helen helped design the original Media Kitchen with David Hopwood, being the only person who had experience in media preparation when she first arrived, gained while working as David Hopwood's assistant at Glasgow University. Joyce Cliffe was the first head of the Media Kitchen, followed by Alice Shackcloth.
