Admin History: Prof David Richmond Newth FRSE LLD (19 Oct 1921-5 June 1988) was a British zoologist and embryologist. He was one of the founding members of the BSDB and member of the committee. BSc ( Zoology), PhD, University of London, lecturer in Zoology at UCL, 1947, Prof. of Biology at Middlesex Hospital School,1960 and Prof. of Zoology at Glasgow University 1965-81. Publications include: Simple Animal Growth and Development (1970), Nervous Systems (1975). Sydney Smith (1911-88), zoologist and Darwin specialist, attended St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, 1929-32 (BA). He later became a Fellow, 1939-88, and University Lecturer in Zoology.
